What makes this holiday different ?

Njaya Lodge has been instrumental in the in the development of tourism in the town of Nkhata Bay. It has integrated successfully into the local community and is very much a 'part' of the town.

Njaya has no walls or fences and the lodge is open to all members of the community and visitors alike.

Being the first tourism facility in Nkhata Bay we made it our policy to help develop the local industry. 80% of the staff that currently work at the lodge are from the locality; were trained 'in house' and have been with us since we opened in 1993.

We have encouraged other facilities that have since opened in and around the town to operate in a socially responsible manner.

The lodge donates money on a monthly basis to the Bwelero Young Voices a small community based organisation involved in orphan care, HIV education and community work.

The lodge has also secured funds for the blind school in the town and has helped to facilitate the building of a new school block. We are currently helping to source funds for a community orphan care centre.

Njaya was constucted utilising all natural locally available materials and a 'no building' policy is in place in order to allow the natural vegetation to flouish.

All refuse is either recycled or fed to livestock.

The carbon emissions associated with the running of the business are compensated through the planting of indigenous trees in Malawi. As a result over 4000 trees have been planted in local communities since 1994.
