Njaya
Lodge is situated in Nkhata
Bay, a vibrant port
town about 50km east of Mzuzu and
is the most popular northern lakeshore resort. It is one of the most scenic
villages on the entire lakeshore and consists of two bays seperated by
a long narrow peninsular.
The town has a large food and clothing
market selling everything from mangoes and avocadoes to colourful chitenges
(sarongs) as well as numerous grocery and hardware stores. There are a selection of local restaurants and bars,
a post office where international calls can be made,a football
pitch and police station.
Nkhata Bay is famous for its curio stalls. With a bit of bartering it is possible
to buy beautiful hardwood carvings that are unique to Malawi. Batiques and traditionally made jewellery
is also available. You can also arrange for a carving lesson where you
can see for yourself the skills involved!

and Chisimulu and on the way north to
Karonga. You can either sleep
under the stars and travel deck class or book a cabin for a more comfortable
passage! Tickets can be obtained
from the port office.
